The PA-28-180 Archer was designed to replace the original Archer design in 1972, including a five inch fuselage extension, wing span increase, larger horizontal tail, gross weight increase. The 'Hershey Bar wing' designed originally by Piper in the 1950's has its supporters – with advantages said to include less inclination for the wing to stall outboard first; a problematic flaw that had to be designed out of the 'newer' tapered wing. The debate continues..! This aircraft is tidy and well maintained with traditional gauges for VFR flight – something the new owner may elect to upgrade, or leave exactly 'as is'. Excellent engine times to run provide low maintenance costs in the medium term. A wonderfully reliable and predictable cruiser for the private pilot, or a new addition to the flight-line at a GA school. |
